Much more than
uke teacher,
Steve is a first-rate
teacher of music,
a distinction that makes apparent the weakness
of many approaches to
the ukulele.
Ron Usher, Vancouver
As producer of the popular Corktown and Annex Ukulele Jams at the hub of Toronto's ukulele scene, Steve McNie has inspired hundreds to play better and progress faster at any skill level. Steve balances playing and singing with pertinent ear training, theory, rhythm, chordal awareness, and above all, musicality. He's big on style, groove, feel and form - and mindful of the ukulele's inherent whimsy.
Steve regularly presents a range of workshops for adults, teens and children sponsored by Koaloha. Private students include Oscar nominee, Jessica Chastain.
He is increasingly receiving attention as a guest artist, workshop leader and jam host by festivals and clubs since producing Canada Ukes, Ontario's first ukulele festival.
Steve is a founding member/cellist in Toronto's Corktown Chamber Orchestra, plays bass, banjo, melodica, cello and accordion in The McFlies, and is called upon to record and arrange for a variety of projects.
