ORGANIZATION

Strength in numbers.

The more you delegate, the more you can focus on your strengths and interests.

We'll look at the needs, tasks and roles involved in producing /

growing your event.

We'll talk about space and location, and the partnership between your host and your event.

We'll also look at event frequency, and construct (workshop, group jam and open stage).

PRESENTATION

Great energy comes from an even flow with minimal distraction and clear direction. Best results come from the presentation of new information in manageable, bite-sized morsels. Video projection is the best way to get people reading off the same page quickly. We will examine how to work effectively in this medium.

We will look at creating effective charts quickly. We'll talk about how to maximize potential within diverse groups of people and how to get them in the groove, singing, playing and having fun.

PROMOTION

Running a uke jam is not a field of dreams. You don't just "build it and they will come". Growth results from an equally smart approach to the experience you create and how you market it. After a look at branding, we will discuss eMail, public forums, social media, advertising, publicity, and word-of-mouth. We'll examine how to attract attention and mobilize to get things going - and how to sustain the growth of your event.

WORKSHOP

Arlo Guthrie suggests that "tuning is like aircraft maintenance, it's worth it."

We feel similarly about making music as a collective. It's not about getting through a song by grinding it out, it's about performing it collectively in a manner that reflects a common spirit, expression and groove. We talk about how to make music: how to get there quickly and on common ground.

GROUP JAM

The best group jams - and the most fun - are those helmed by strong leadership and a keen sense of energy. We look at how to get the most from your songbook. How to arrive at your list, how to line it up. And we'll discuss a number of useful, not difficult techniques that will help you produce a best-possible experience.

OPEN STAGE

Open stage is not a suitable option for all gatherings. If appropriate, it can be integrated into your event in a variety of ways. We'll look at several key elements that will help you produce a quality open stage:

hosting, theming, programming, sound support, involvement of other instruments, managing the list.
