WHERE TO BUY IN THE GTA
The retail scene for ukes in the GTA has improved hugely over the past few years with multiple outlets carrying higher end names like Koaloha, Kanile'a and Kamaka to improve more expansive presentation in the mid lines like Kala, Ohana and Lanakai.
Here are some great options:
Broadway Music: Heather and Michael's fabulous store in Orangeville carries a nice selection of Koaloha, Kanile'a, Breedlove, Anuinui, Kala, Eleuke, Ohana. Speak to them in advance and they will bring the range of what you are looking for to the next jam in Toronto.
Cosmo Music, North America's largest music retail centre is also home to the Toronto North Ukulele Jam. Their impressive range of popular brands that have been recently been augmented by representation of Kanil'ea and Kamaka.
The 12th Fret: This high-end fretted instrument shop offers the best breadth of selection in the city. They feature Koaloha, Kala and National.
String Along: The Ruplens are in Dundas Ontario and offer CUJAM members 10% on Ohana and accesories deliver to Toronto as often as possible.
Remenyi House of Music: This Bloor Street store offers a decent selection of entry level and and middle range ukes.
Long & McQuade: Decent selection and good pricing on lower and middle instruments. Nothing in the upper middle and better ranges.
Steve's Music: Toronto's WalMart of music. OK selection and decent pricing on lower-end instruments. Ensure the tuning gears don't jam and the paint job isn't shoddy in that Mahalo you're thinking of buying for your room-mate.
Musideum: Very limited selection of hard-to-find high end ukes amongst one of the most interesting MI collections you'll ever see. A must-visit, just for the experience.
