This is an introductory workshop for those with no previous ukulele playing experience.
A perfect introduction the world's friendliest instrument, it begins at ground zero and is very basic.
We'll have you playing quickly, no matter what your musical background. After this workshop you will have learned enough be able to approach almost any tune on your own. This is a perfect start to getting the most from events like Toronto's weekly Corktown Ukulele Jam.

2 versions are offered. Both cover the same ground, but at a different pace:
UKE-101express | 1 x 3h session
Ideal for those who have some music experience.
UKE-101plus | 3 x 2h over 3 weeks
An "extended play" version that spreads learning over twice the time of UKE 101express, ideal for new players who have little or no background in music.
Both formats qualify for our UB4E BuddyPlan: bring two friends with you to 101, you get UKE-201 FREE.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

basic chords that enable you to play almost any song with a little practice:
MAJOR CHORDS: C F G A Bb
MINOR CHORDS: Am Dm
OTHERS: A7 C7 Cmaj7 E7 G7 Am7/C6

a comfortable, fluid basic right hand strum style and maintenance of tempo

tuning without assistance and use of electronic tuners

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

a playable ukulele* in decent condition that stays in tune under normal conditions(sopranino, soprano, concert or tenor ukes only please - no baritones)

short nails! Your left hand finger nails need to allow clean compact between your finger tips and the string (trimmed to "just" below your finger tips)

recommended: an electronic chromatic tuner (about $20).
